Plot[]
Nels Oleson has had it up to here with his wife's snobbish, meddlesome behavior, particularly toward the Ingalls. Mrs. Oleson doesn't take kindly to her husband's old-school beliefs either. The two get into a huge argument and decide to separate. This sends the Ingalls' and the Olesons' other friends to intervene and convince them to settle their differences. After a major disagreement, Nels and Harriet decide to go their separate ways and with Mrs. Oleson intending to take the children back east for good. The situation showed that Nellie and Laura admit their friendship despite all the quarreling and bad manners, as do Caroline and Mrs. Oleson. All the townspeople do their best to reunite the troubled couple.

Trivia[]
- Look quickly for the man in the checked shirt, dark vest and hat, who follows Mrs. Foster into the store just as the Olesons open the doors. Could this be the elusive Mr. Foster? When Charles (holding Carrie) enters the stockroom to talk to Nels, the viewer can briefly see Mrs. Foster in the store, turning to ask this man a question, while holding some merchandise. As nobody addresses this mystery man by name during the scene, however, the viewer can only presume that this is indeed Mr. Foster. Mr. Foster only makes very rare appearances in the series.?
