|0||Charles and Caroline Ingalls move from the woods of Wisconsin to the open prairies of Kansas. Their closest neighbor, Isaiah Edwards, helps the Ingalls settle into their new home as they encounter storms, a fire, and hostile American Indian Tribes. After finally settling they are notified by the government that they have to move immediately.|
|1||"Home is the nicest word there is." The Ingalls settle on the banks of Plum Creek in Walnut Grove. In order to set up the farm, Charles must take on several jobs at once. He even commits to giving up his oxen if he fails to complete one of
his projects by the agreed date.
|2||It is Laura and Mary's first day of school. This is where they first meet Nellie Olsen, who frequently refers to them as "Country Girls."|
|3||The Ingalls are settling in quite well until a severe hailstorm ruins their crops. Charles and some of the other farmers are forced to look for work elsewhere and eventually find employment in a quarry.|
