Harperandbrothers

Harper & Brothers were a New York book and magazine publishing company who were the original publishers of the Little House book series written by Laura Ingalls Wilder. James Harper and his brother John, who were printers by training, started what would become Harper & Brothers as J. & J. Harper in 1817.

Their two brothers, Joesph and Fletcher, joined them in the mid 1820s. The company's name was changed to Harper & Brothers in 1833. Harper & Brothers also published magazines, and in 1867 published the fashion magazine Harper's Bazar. It was sold to William Randolph Hearst in 1913 and now known as Bazaar, published by the Hearst Corporation.

In 1962, Harper & Brothers merged with Row, Peterson & Company and became Harper & Row. News Corporation acquired Harper & Row in 1987 and William Collins & Sons in 1990. The two are now known as HarperCollins.
