Granville Whipple was the son of Mrs. Whipple He came home to Walnut Grove in the episode called "The Soldier's Return", and his mother was delighted to have him back. He had a slight limp, and was rather tall. Granville was well-liked by the people of Walnut Grove, and even went to dinner at the Ingalls house. He gave some children music lessons, such as Mary, Nellie, and Willie. Unbeknownst to them, he was suffering from an addiction to morphine, which Doc Baker picked up on, and had nightmares of his past trauma in war. He met the wife and son of a man who died in the same battle he ran away from, which only further increased his feelings of guilt because the man was his best friend. He had also received medals for his "courage". He finally told his mother of all this, and she offered to help him, but he refused. He was found in the woods the next day, dead due to morphine overdose.
